Trip North: Thursday

We left the Lake District first thing in the morning to go to Preston. We were led on a Church History tour of Preston by a man named Peter. The first missionaries to Great Britain—Heber C. Kimball, Willard Richards, Joseph Fielding, Orson Hyde, and a few others—all started in Preston. We saw sights where they stood to preach the gospel, along with some other well-known church figures, including a young man named Gordon B. Hinkley. It was a great tour. There are several plaques in the city park commemorating the early members of the Church. Running alongside the park is the River Ribble, the place the first members were baptized. The oldest continuous branch of the church is in Preston. We also visited a small town called Chorely, which is the actual location of the Preston Temple. We spent about an hour at the temple. After the temple we set out for Liverpool.
